Description: ** Teacher of General Science** 11-16 mixed school ** 600 pupils ** Havering LEA ** ½ mile from nearest station This popular and oversubscribed school based in Havering is looking for a Teacher of General Science for September 2008. The position is initially a 2 x term contract but will become permanent for the right candidate. A bias towards Physics would be an advantage but is not essential. Pupils come from mixed socio-economic backgrounds and the number of pupils with SEN is above average. The spectrum of Special Needs includes MLD, Autism, EBD and low levels of literacy and Numeracy. The school has a special provision for speech and language difficulties. The school is part of an “Excellence in Cities” project and is actively involved with Project Trident. In 2002 the school gained “School achievement” Award and Sportsmark status. According to a recent Ofsted report, the school is increasingly effective and pupils achieve well. Pupils receive good support and guidance. The Headteacher has successfully put policies in place to raise pupils self-esteem, confidence and aspirations. Pupils get on well and behaviour is generally good. Standards are good in Science to KS4 and pupils achieve grades above the national average. Pupils generally enjoy Science because of the variety of lessons and different activities on offer. Overall, teacher, learning and management are good in this school.
