Description: JOB TITLE:Development Technologist (maternity cover)PURPOSE OF JOBThe primary role is to organise the NPD paper work for the 2sites (Crawley, Gillingham) also to prepareand being involved in all product development and tasting of existing and newproducts. General duties in the Development Kitchen too.JOB FACTS AND FIGURESThe job holder is a member of the NPD team reporting to theDevelopment Manager.Scale of site operations 6,000 tonnes p.a. 160+ staff,58,000 sq. ft manufacturing facility.Main customers: Major retailers, e.g. Morrison, Waitrose,Sainsbury, Co-op.JOB CONTEXT AND CONTENT:The job holder assists the Development Manager or theDevelopment Technologist in all duties associated with product tasting.Key Tasks:•Tastingpreparation•Documentationof test result•Generationof relevant NPD paper work for PR and Wessex sites•Generalkitchen duties•Maintenanceof good standards of hygiene, housekeeping and safety•Specificprojects as required by the Development Manager •Cooking ofproducts for audit. KEY PROBLEMS FACEDThe job holder isrequired to prepare the appropriate documentation for pasta and wet products,cook and present in the most professional, impartial manner any products thatare to be evaluated and gathering results and comments.EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGEGraduate or newly graduate in food science discipline,computer literacy, numeracy some experience in food industry will beappreciate.DIRECTION RECEIVEDDirection is received from the Development Manager and fromother SeniorManagers/Directorsfrom time to time.WORKING CONTACTSGenerally all staff at all levels within the business.Contact with raw material suppliers on request by theDevelopment Manager.ACCOUNTABILITESSatisfactory set up of all tasting sessions.Satisfactory and timely completion of set projects.To compile concise and accurate documentation as required.To keep the development facilities clean and tidy at alltime.One to cover maternity leave from Mid July to Approx 1stApril 2009. Salary c£20k (this could suit a graduate).
