JOB TITLE: TECHNICAL MANAGER – West SussexPURPOSE OF JOBAccountable for the management, development and control ofthe Technical and Quality Assurance function to achieve compliance withlegislation and agreed customer requirements, in line with Company strategicobjectives and agreed cost parameters.Responsibility for food safety, quality and legality at theproduction sites.JOB FACTS AND FIGURES•Thejobholder is a member of the Senior Operations Team to be defined•Thejobholder is responsible for the management and control of a team•Departmentalbudget: tbc.•Scale ofthe operation: to be defined as the business developsJOB CONTACT AND CONTENTThe jobholder keeps updated on emerging technicallegislation likely to have an impact on the business and is responsible forensuring that appropriate cost-effective actions/solutions are proposed to theSite Operations Director, to ensure on-going compliance.Operation of the department is against defined budgetarylimits.Job holder is responsible for the site based in Gillingham, Dorset but will be expected to offer help and advicewhere necessary to the technical manager at the Park Royal soup and saucemanufacturing site. KEY PROBLEMS FACEDThe technical resources at the Dorsetsite require creation post acquisition.The JH will develop the systems in conjunction with groupcolleagues, customers and accreditation bodies.The rapid pace of change creates the need to constantlydevise and implement procedures to manage increasingly complex requirements andprovides an excellent opportunity for an experienced team player to influence,and assist the change process.The job will require occasional travelling between sites at Crawley and Park Royal.KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCEA food science degree or related equivalent isrequired.A minimum of 3 yearstechnical/Quality Assurance management experience, ideally gained within amajor chilled food manufacturing business is a pre-requisite.Experience in dealing with customer technicalstaff and achievement of EFSIS/BRC technical requirements would be anadvantage.Well developed communication skills and personal stature,together with a mature personality, tact and diplomacy are mandatory.ACCOUNTABILITIESImplementation and achievement of Technical/Qualityrequirements.Submission of Technical budget and achievement of costtargets.Cost control within department.Developmentof process and staff to achieve devolved accountability for quality.To promoteand develop the technical function as the centre of expertise in technicaland qualitymatters, both internally and with major customers.To promote and develop awareness of quality requirements atall levels of thebusiness.Development and maintenance of strong professionalrelationships withcustomer representatives and those of enforcing authorities.Friday 8.30 – 5.30 but must be flexible. Salary circa £40k25 days holiday plus bank holidays. Other company benefitsare available to certain grades, unsure of which at present.
