Description: Head of Hardware / Engineering Manager – Hardware Head– RF, Military Communications, Defence.Duties – To provide leadership of the Hardware Engineering Discipline within the RF/Communications division. Developing a divisional change programme for the provision of common tools processes and procedures, enabling the effective delivery of Bids, Programmes and Services. Forming a strategic plan for the development of the discipline that encompasses industry best practice, with a particular emphasis on outstanding and off-shorting opportunities.Key tasks -Responsible for the derivation of the strategic and tactical plans for resource capacity and capability improvement within the Hardware Engineering Discipline that delivers: a supply of Hardware engineering resource that matches demand. Management and resolution of resource conflicts within the discipline and elevation of issues arising to the Engineering Council. Measurement and assessment of the discipline Technical skill base, Development of the discipline technical skill base to meet emerging tools and technology integration. Identify and plan the introduction of Industry best practice for tools and processes within the discipline with the objective of improving engineering efficiency to enable delivery .Ensure people development processes and activities are carried out across the Hardware discipline within the division. Ensure timely completion of the appraisal process within the Hardware discipline. Lead appraisals for Hardware Managers. Responsible for ensuring consistency in salaries across the discipline and, in conjunction with Directors of Engineering, complete salary reviews for Hardware Discipline Managers. Responsible for professional development of Hardware Discipline Managers.As a key member of the Engineering Council:act as a Champion for Hardware Engineering and provide leadership, guidance and support to the Discipline managers and Engineering Community. Support the initiatives of members from other Operations Councils. Support the development and implementation of the companies Strategic and Technical Business plans. Technical & Professional skills – The Head of Hardware will have clear and demonstrable technical and managerial leadership within an engineering environment. Including RF, HF, VHF Communications, Military Communications, Hardware specialists. A significant depth and breath of knowledge of Hardware Engineering processes and techniques employed within the company, the market sectors it operates within e.g. RF, Defence, , Aerospace, HF, VHF Communications. Very experienced in managing change programmes, including process and procedural improvements, supporting industry recognized accreditation, certification or bench marking. Familiar with the construction and development of Strategic and Tactical plans. Ability to work professionally and constructively within a team environment. Clear and confident presentation skills. Education & Qualifications - BSc/MSc or equivalent experience in relevant engineering discipline. Chartered Engineer or in latter stages of assessment with a recognized professional institution (eg IET, BCS, IoP). Solid experience working in a Hardware Management role. Personality / Behaviours - A natural leader with the ability to challenge others. Candidates will need to be a reliable, self-starter, capable of working on own initiative. Confident communicator at all levels. Candidates should be resourceful and proactive in performing activities, ensuring adequate quality and timely delivery. Willingness / flexibility in support of activities at other company sites worldwide. Salary £60K-£65K plus benefits – Location – Crawley, West Sussex
