Description: EDITOR (Ref: CBD/E)Based in Central LondonCurrent BioData Ltd is a joint venture between the Science Navigation Group and Swiss-Prot to develop the Targeted Proteins database (TPdb), a new set of resources for scientists and others involved in drug discovery..Weare seeking an enthusiastic and well-organised postgraduate (PhD or equivalent) in either biochemistry or molecular biology, to join the editorial team as an Editor. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up and overseeing whole sections of content within the database, based around protein or disease families. This will involve identifying and recruiting the leading experts in the field, commissioning reviews and taking charge of the peer-review process, and acting as an internal scientific expert in those areas to support the rest of the editorial team. As such, this role requires close liaison with the rest of the team as well as building good relationships with scientific experts across a wide breadth of protein fields. An ability to apply your scientific knowledge and understanding to areas outside of your areas of expertise will be a key requirement for this role. Good networking and excellent all-round communication skills are essential, as is computer literacy and attention to detail. Previous editorial experience is not required as appropriate training will beprovided. Informal enquiries can be made to the Editorial Director, Dr Rebecca Lawrence: rebecca.lawrence@currentbiodata.comRoleSet-up Targeted Proteins database Virtual Academies – find and recruit appropriate names through research and discussion with experts in the area.Quickly learn and develop a broad scientific overview of each new topic area, identify the key players involved, developng new contacts in the area, and building a high-level structure for the database in that area.Identify suitable review articles for commissioning with possible authors, working with external Academy members to develop this list as appropriate.Identify suitable referees and co-ordinate peer review.Edit articles for scientific accuracy and structure, taking into account the needs of the database and referee comments, and work with authors on required revisions.Make decisions on publication of articles on the basis of the referees’ advice as well as your own knowledge and experience.Liaise with the Editorial Coordinator(s) on publication scheduling.Work with external contacts to decide when new reviews in each area may be necessary.Contribute ideas for the next broad topic areas to cover in the database.Liaise with Marketing, Sales and Development as appropriate.Manage the development and maintenance of the Virtual Academy including organisation and running of Board meetings if appropriate.RequirementsPhD in biochemistry or molecular biology - essential.
